Just Playing

Here are a few random pictures of Bennett – I seem to go in spurts with taking pictures of him, and I’m trying to be better about capturing the everyday little things he does.

these have nothing to do with Bennett – just some really pretty blossoms I found on our walk the other day.

The Weekend

Be prepared for a plethora of posts…when I try to space them out I end up not posting them, so I’m going to get them all at once…here’s a quick run-down of our weekend. On Friday night, my kind sister watched Bennett so we could go to Nate’s co-worker’s wedding reception. It was a really fun reception, and included a yummy 9-course meal at La Caille. Congratulations Shirlene and Matthew!

Bennett had a cold on Saturday and didn’t feel like doing much, so we hung out at home most of the day. We were all getting a little antsy by the evening so we went over to a pretty park I discovered (thanks Becky T!) by the Timpanogos Temple. We explored the park and tried to keep Bennett happy. As you can see from the pictures, we weren’t very successful. In honor of his recent doctor’s visit, where he weighed in at 21.98 lbs (16th percentile – he’s back on the charts!), we turned his car seat around for our trip to the park. If he hadn’t been sick I think he would have liked it. Fortunately, he seemed to be doing better yesterday and today. We’ll have to venture back to the park when he’s in a better mood (but not today – because it snowed this morning :(

 

Bennett Was Here

yes, I realize this is proof that I need to dust more often, but I found this when I was dusting last week on the shelf under our coffee table and thought it was pretty cute. He likes to leave his mark wherever he goes.

The Zoo

Bennett and I had a playdate at the zoo on Wednesday afternoon. We met up with Elise & Madeline and Laura & Grace at Hogle Zoo and Bennett loved looking at all the animals. Some of them he saw right away when we’d go over by them – like the mom & cute baby elephant – but some of them it took him a minute to find. He loved looking at all the animals – he would get excited and point and sometimes bounce up and down, and make all sorts of noises.

When we were getting ready to go and waiting by the entrance, Bennett kept wanting to walk over to the big black ball fountain thingy (it was a marbled ball that had water coming down it and spun around). I thought our reflection was pretty cool with the sky. I had plenty of time to take pictures because he didn’t want to walk away from it (and when we did walk away, he just wanted to go back).

Caddy Stack: Stack 3 golf balls vertically. [we were both able to get 2, but couldn’t ever stack the 3rd)

Don’t Blow the Joker: A standard deck of playing cards is balanced on the neck of a glass soda bottle. Contestant uses his/her mouth to blow the cards off the bottle, leaving only the bottom card balanced on the bottle. If the contestant blows the entire deck and all the cards fall, they must move on to the next station. [Nate was successful on the 3rd try, but I never quite made it]

Elephant March: Eight unopened water bottles are placed in two parallel rows on the ground, precisely eight feet apart. The contestant must wear a standard pair of pantyhose over the head, with a baseball placed inside the end of one leg. Keeping one foot on each side of the centerline, the contestant must swing back and forth using the momentum of the baseball to knock down all eight bottles. [Nate once again made me look bad by doing it on the first try with 20 seconds to spare. I at least came close a couple times]

Walking!!

Bennett finally took his first solo steps on Saturday! He's been practicing for quite a while, and there were a couple times Saturday when he walked from the coffee table to the couch, or to one of us, without holding on, so we decided to see if we could get him to walk between us. He took several steps and was just loving it! I had to hurry and get the video camera (aka camera with a video function) out because he just wanted to keep going. He was even willing to get up and keep trying after falling and bonking his head. He looks pretty cute. Here's a short video for you. He still doesn't really want to try unless he's going from me to Nate or vice versa, but I'm guessing he'll pick it up pretty quickly.

Becky is the proud owner of a brand new 8 lb bowling ball thanks to the Jack and Jill Bowling Alley in Lehi!  She won a new bowling ball when we went to the “Grand Opening” of our local bowling alley today!  She is definitely the lucky one in the family.  Anybody need a new bowling ball?   

Camille’s Graduation

My little sister Camille graduated from BYU last week (well, I guess two weeks ago now). Congratulations Cam! My parents came in town, and Bennett and I went down to both the convocation and the commencement. It was a lot of sitting for Bennett (and me) but it was fun to see her graduate and share in the excitement.

          

After graduation on Thursday, we went to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate. We thought that by going to a restaurant in Lehi we would avoid the post-graduation rush. No such luck. After a longer-than-promised wait, they split us into two tables. It was still fun to go out and celebrate though.

 

After raining / snowing on Friday during Camille’s graduation, it finally warmed up on Saturday. Dad and Nate went golfing, and mom, Cam, Bennett and I went up to temple square. It was so pretty with all the flowers! I love tulips. We went to the Church History museum too, which I had never been to. They had some neat things inside.

We went to a park for a walk that night, and Bennett got to swing on the swings and feed grass to some sheep. It was a great weekend with my family – we can’t wait till they come again!
