Getting Ready

I don’t have anything too exciting to blog about, but figured we were due for a little update. We’ve mostly been trying to get stuff done before the baby comes, especially since I went to the doctor on Thursday and it looks like the baby is more likely to come early / on time than late (quite a surprise since I was induced when I was a week overdue with Bennett). We’re getting there though – at this point I think I have all (or mostly all) the baby-related stuff done (clothes washed, diapers in place, etc.) and I’m just trying to get the other stuff done that we won’t have time for after (like oil changes in the cars, haircuts, etc.). Due date is April 8, so we have just over 2 weeks. Wouldn’t it be nice if he just came right on his due date? This is when a scheduled C-section sounds pretty convenient. One of our biggest to-do items is choosing a name. We’re open to suggestions (not that we’ll necessarily use them, but at this point we could use some help!).

And because every post needs a picture, here’s me at about 8 months, 36 weeks – with this baby on the left, with Bennett on the right. Definitely a little bigger this time around.

I attempted to take some “official” 2-year-old pictures of Bennett a couple weeks ago. He sat still for about 10 seconds before I had to chase him around to try and get some good ones. We got a couple that are ok, but we’ll have to try again soon (that’s also on my pre-baby to do list!).

Sunshine!

After the snow on Tuesday, it was quite the contrast when it got up to about 60 degrees yesterday. I helped Bennett ride his new bike to the playground by our house so we could enjoy the weather. Bennett has been pretty attached to his doggies lately and insisted on bringing them. He had a little routine where he would go up to the top of the structure and spin the steering wheel, then come back down (he’s not brave enough to go down the big slide), go down the little slide, run a couple big circles around the playground, then hang on the bar. I had a hard time getting him ready to go down there, but once we were there it took some convincing to get him home. We’re looking forward to many more warm days!

And a couple pictures from this morning – it’s so funny to see the little things Bennett wants to do and is insistent on. Notice in the pictures below: 1) frog jammies that are too small but he insisted on wearing last night, 2) his tie he wanted to put on this morning, 3) the frog chair on the couch, and 4) the basketball hoop right up by the couch. I had to adjust the positioning of the frog chair and basketball hoop about 4 times before he was satisfied.DSC_0248

Snow

I feel like a somewhat delinquent mom because Bennett hasn’t really played in the snow much this winter. For the first couple months, he didn’t have any snow boots so although he threw snowballs every once in a while we didn’t really go out when it snowed. Since he got his boots for his birthday (thanks mom!) it seems like the snow has been melting off pretty quickly (it snows overnight but is mostly gone by late morning / afternoon). We finally went out and enjoyed it today – it snowed several inches last night and although I had to run errands this morning, half our yard still had a lot of snow after his nap. I couldn’t convince him to put on his snow pants, but he was otherwise all geared up. We attempted to make a snowman but the snow was really powdery so all we eventually got was a really big snowball. It was pretty fun though. I’ll stop writing and show you some pictures :)

in the second picture, I told Bennett to hold up the snowball and show it to me, but he threw it instead :)

I probably should have helped him get the snow off his face instead of taking a picture, but I liked his sad snow face too much.

Pre-Baby Getaway

Nate and I decided a while ago to do a mini getaway before the baby was born since we figured it could be a long time before we’d be able to spend much time alone together. We were so grateful for Nate’s parents being willing to watch Bennett for us – he had a great time with them and they enjoyed it too (at least that’s what they told us :)

We went up to Midway on Friday and stayed at the Homestead resort. After having dinner, we headed over to the Midway Ice Castles for one of their last nights. The ice castles were pretty impressive! It was fun to walk around and explore them. It took several attempts, but we finally got a decent picture with both of us in it (i.e. I don't look like a dork).

Although we were pretty cold after walking through the ice castles, the Dairy Keen was calling our name and we shared a yummy raspberry shake. Saturday morning, we slept in a little bit, then went to the pool / hot tub at the hotel. Since I’ve always been pregnant in the winter (at least the big part of pregnancy) I haven’t felt the need to get a maternity swimsuit and just stuck my feet in while Nate swam. We spent the rest of the day up in Heber / Park City going bowling, for a little drive to a couple small towns in the mountains, grabbing lunch in Park City and stopping at a few of the outlets, then going to an early movie in Park City before heading home. We had planned to use a gift card we have for dinner that night, but I wasn’t feeling great for some reason and the only thing that sounded good to me was a bowl of Cheerios, so we went home instead. Nate’s parents kept Bennett until Sunday afternoon, so I had a great day at church and a nice Sunday nap before we went to pick him up. It was a great weekend – so nice to just spend some time together. We’re grateful for Bennett’s wonderful grandparents (and Anna, Spencer, Heidi & Cory) who took such good care of him that he probably didn’t even notice we were gone! He LOVES "bampa’s house”.

Here we are at the Jordanelle Reservoir overlook by Heber / Park City – it was really pretty with half the reservoir frozen over and half not (we’re not looking so pretty with the sun in our eyes but I thought I’d at least include mine because I haven’t posted many “belly pictures” :)

New Bike

Bennett was pretty excited for his grandparents to come down for dinner a few days after his birthday, and even more excited when he saw the new glider bike they got for him! Here he is trying out his new bike, hanging out with grandma and grandpa, and showing them his new room with “dat bed”. He is always excited to go to “grandpa’s house” and loved having them visit our house too!
