We decided to take advantage of a free Saturday and take a day trip to a couple places we had been wanting to visit. We caught the 7:50am ferry to Bainbridge, then 12.5 hours, three ferry rides, two islands, one giant ginger-bread-man-shaped maple bar, eight porpoises, a seal, a downpour, a military base, a lighthouse, dozens of small crabs, and a dinner at Cafe Rio later we made it back home. A few highlights from the day:
Ferry Ride #1 (Eliza’s sock is about to fall off in the picture – a kind man told us it fell off before we walked back inside and he tried to catch it but the wind blew it overboard)
Poulsbo (and its yummy bakery!):
You can’t see them very well, but we crossed a drawbridge that was up for a boat, and while we were stopped looked out into the water and saw several porpoises swimming around and even jumping once.
Tide pooling at Fort Townsend…
Lunch and walking through downtown Port Townsend… (where we got stuck in a massive downpour!)
Port Townsend Lighthouse
And an abandoned military base with a view…
Ferry Ride #2: Port Townsend to Whidbey Island…
Where we found a small beach with lots of scurrying crabs, then took a final ferry ride back and drove home.
can you spot the crab in the picture on the left?
