Bennett’s 7th Birthday

Bennett had been counting down the days until his birthday ever since Christmas. He made a calendar with the number of days until his birthday marked on each day, and wrote in the February birthdays of all of his aunts, uncles, and cousins. The day finally came, and he was pretty excited. He had school in the morning, then in the late afternoon, Nate come home from work early and we all went swimming in the late afternoon / evening. All the kids were really excited about going, and the boys were especially excited that dad was coming with them. Unfortunately, after swimming, Bennett’s eyes were really irritated (he loves to swim underwater but leaves his eyes open) and bothered him most of the rest of the night. We came home and had Bennett’s requested dinner (“pasta bake”), and he opened the rest of his presents (he had been begging to open them throughout the day, so we opened a few earlier), then we had cake (in minion form) and ice cream (mint chocolate chip, per his request). It was a fairly low-key day, but he was really happy and loved all the phone calls and messages he got!

7 feels older than 6 to me – no longer a little boy, but an elementary-school-age boy. Bennett is a great big brother, loves learning, reading, sports, drawing, and legos. We are so grateful to have him as part of our family!

I asked Bennett some questions about himself to record on his birthday, and realized that he inherited a little too much of his mom’s indecisiveness and inability to choose favorites. Here’s a little about Bennett at 7:
