All summer, Nate had been talking about doing a Fathers & Sons campout with the boys and some friends. Finally, before it got too cold, a date was set, schedules were coordinated, details were arranged, and supplies and meal responsibilities were divvied up. 5 men, 8 boys, and one girl met at our house on a Friday afternoon and drove just over half an hour to an area of Luxembourg called “Little Switzerland”.
While the men and boys set up camp, roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, and played on the playground, the women and little girls enjoyed a girls’ night at our house with Indian Food, too many desserts, nail painting, and lots of talking. We put the three little girls to bed and lost track of time talking and laughing until almost midnight.
Saturday morning, the campers packed up camp and we drove up and met them at the Beaufort Castle. The kids loved exploring the ruins and climbing up into the towers.
Beaufort Castle:
After the castle, we drove to Lake Echternach, also in the Little Switzerland region, found the largest picnic table ever to eat our picnic lunches on, and let the kids play to their hearts’ content on the playground before packing up and heading home.
Overall, a successful weekend for the campers and for exploring another part of Luxembourg.
