We had a pretty low-key celebration for Eliza’s first birthday since we had only been here a few weeks and were still getting settled (and the one family with little kids we had become friends with had sick kids). We had a small celebration that night – the boys wanted Eliza to have a pink cake with purple frosting, and that was just simple enough for me :) She opened a few presents, then we let her eat some cake. I was actually surprised – with how much she eats and loves to eat, I thought she would just devour the cake, but she seemed a little unsure about it. She did eventually eat quite a bit (by stuffing handfuls in her mouth), and she seemed pretty excited about the presents she opened.
A little about Eliza at one:
First word: nana – for banana (one of her favorite foods), but she uses it when she wants any food
8 teeth: 4 on top and 4 on bottom
Cruises along everything and crawls everywhere
Stands alone for a couple of seconds before holding onto something or sitting down
Waves to everyone, and waves when you say good-night or good-bye
Covers her eyes (or at least tries to) to play peek-a-boo when you say “Where’s Eliza?”
Babbles a lot – says mama, dada, etc., but doesn’t associate it with us yet
Screams / shrieks when she wants something (unfortunately, we don’t always know what it is)
Loves her older brothers and especially loves when Bennett plays with her, and gets excited when they get off the school bus
We sure love this little girl!
